First, I don't understand why the intial review is repeated. We got it the first time.
I remember when you could sit in the balcony and see the main screen. I miss that, but I do appreciate the need to redesign the theater for economic and structural reasons.
The Coolidge offers a wide range of films, hosts festivals, film series, and other cultural events. It is a wonderful member of the Brookline community, and too often, one of the few places one can go to in an effort to escape the banal, the violent, and the just plain ridiculous.
I thought this was a great art house theater but I was sadly mistaken. I saw a film in their Screening Room and the entire film was shown out of focus. I even complained to an employee who came up looked at the screen and then at me as if nothing was wrong. The film was supposed to a beautifully shot film, but I got to experience the film as I was strongly near-sighted. Then at the end of the film, the theater lights came on so that we could hardly see the final scenes. Coolidge Corner ruined this film for me and wasted my money. I strongly discourage anyone from seeing a film in their Screening Rooms.

Great selection of indie/foreign films in a neighborhood that is a plus as well--places to eat, bookstore, parking lot behind theater. Downsides: rabbit warren layout, up and down stairs to get to some screens, which would be just kind of charming, but add some employees (not all, but you'll encounter at least one on any trip there) who just don't give a damn, rude.
